“Does My Heat Pump Need Fewer Repairs?”

Heat pumps are incredible systems. After all, they are able to offer year-round temperature control. This wonderful two-for-one system is becoming rapidly more popular throughout the country, not to mention in North Carolina. However, while these systems are gaining popularity there are also plenty of misconceptions that follow this.

While a misunderstanding about your heat pump is a common issue, it can also be the thing that causes problems for the longevity of your system. That’s why we want to clarify some things about your heat pump. The more your know about your system the better you will be able to determine when you need a heat pump repair in Raleigh, NC.

Addressing Some Common Misunderstandings About Heat Pumps

You need to know what is and isn’t normal for your heat pump so you can get the most from your system rather than steering it to an early breakdown. To help, we’ve compiled some common misconceptions about these systems to correct.

“My heat pump only needs maintenance once a year.”

Your heat pump can be used to both heat and cool your home. If you use both these functions (and you should), you actually need maintenance for this system at least twice a year. Regular maintenance each year can make a huge difference in the lifespan of your heat pump and its ability to keep you comfortable.

“Heat pumps will never need repairs.”

While heat pumps are often less likely to develop as many repairs as, say, a furnace or central AC unit, they will still need professional repairs. These systems can actually develop a lot of repair needs if maintenance is skipped or they aren’t used properly.

“My heat pump has weaker airflow because it is smaller than a central AC.”

Weak airflow isn’t normal from your heat pump. Just because the system takes up less space doesn’t mean it won’t be as powerful. Weak airflow is a sure sign of an issue within your system, such as leaking ducts or a clogged air filter.

“My heat pump runs completely silently!”

No, it doesn’t. While heat pumps do boast quiet operation, they shouldn’t be 100% silent. If your heat pump doesn’t at least make the sound of air whooshing into the room, it indicates that the system isn’t working at all.

“Heat pumps are easier to work on, so they don’t need professional service.”

This one can end up being downright dangerous. Again, just because a system is smaller or seemingly less complex, doesn’t mean it doesn’t require professional service. Do not attempt to maintain or repair your heat pump on your own! If you do, you run the risk of injuring yourself, doing extra damage to the system, voiding the warranty, and causing additional issues. If your heat pump is in trouble, you should always reach out for professional repairs—it will save you time, money, and stress in the long run.
